The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) welcomes the fresh round of sanctions the US Administration slapped on the Iranian regime. The new sanctions came to confirm that there is no other solution for the policies of the rogue Iranian regime and its projects aimed at destabilizing the region, sponsoring terrorism, supporting tyranny, committing war crimes and crimes against humanity and against its own people.
Prior to these sanctions, the US administration has recently imposed sanctions on terrorist organizations affiliated with Iran, most notably the Hezbollah Militia. The new package of sanctions targets the banking sector that the Iranian regime is using to fund malign activities and terrorist acts.
The latest sanctions are a positive step that needs to be reinforced with further decisive measures.
It is imperative that the international community work to dismantle the Iranian-run terror networks in the region. International actors must realize that any further delay in assuming their responsibilities will risk further exacerbation of crises and the loss of more lives.
