The political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) held its regular meeting on Thursday to discuss the latest developments on the ground and in the political arena in Syria. They also assessed the work of various working groups, departments, and offices.
SOC Vice President Abdul Hakim Bashar briefed the committee on his recent activities in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. He visited the Dara Shukran camp for Syrian refugees to understand their conditions and needs. Additionally, he met with activists and social organizations in Erbil and expressed gratitude to the Barzani Charity Foundation for supporting Syrian refugees.
SOC’s representative in France, Nour al-Din al-Labbad, reported on his attendance at the trials in Paris for several war criminals associated with the Assad regime, namely Ali Mamlouk, Jamil Hassan, and Abdel Salam Mahmoud. Al-Labbad detailed the trial process and the ongoing interrogations of numerous witnesses, emphasizing the independence of the French judiciary and the absence of political influence in the trials.
The committee reviewed a political analysis regarding the increasing exodus of Syrians from regime-controlled areas, primarily to avoid compulsory conscription into regime forces and due to the dire economic conditions.
They also discussed the latest situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, including those imprisoned in Roumieh Prison. Additionally, the committee examined the path of Arab normalization with the Assad regime in light of the outcomes of the recent Arab summit in Manama.
The attendees also deliberated on the potential repercussions of the death of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and his associates, considering its impact on the internal Iranian situation and the broader region.
