The Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) political committee held its regular meeting on Thursday to discuss recent developments in Syria’s political and field conditions, as well as regional and international events related to Syria, with a particular focus on the U.S. elections and the victory of Republican candidate Donald Trump.
SOC’s President Hadi Al-Bahra provided a briefing on the efforts being made to implement action plans approved in the latest General Assembly meeting, along with preparations for the upcoming Syrian Recovery Trust Fund board meeting.
Attendees reviewed a political analysis of the U.S. election results, examining factors that contributed to Trump’s victory over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, and discussed how these election results might impact the Middle East, especially Syria.
The discussions also covered ways to engage with the incoming U.S. administration to achieve peace in Syria and the broader region, emphasizing the importance of ending Iranian regime influence in the region and forcing Iran to withdraw its sectarian militias.
The committee members continued to explore ways to revitalize the political process and implement UN resolutions concerning Syria, with priority given to the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Security Council Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
Participants stressed the importance of preparing for upcoming scenarios and key events, maximizing potential opportunities that support the Syrian people’s cause and their aspirations for justice, freedom, and democracy.
