Activists in Aleppo said that 16 civilians, including 7 children, were killed and many more were injured in Russian airstrikes on a popular market in the neighborhood of Tariq Albab in Aleppo city late on Friday. Russian airstrikes also targeted residential neighborhoods in the rebel-held parts of the city and its northern countryside.
The Civil Defense Corps in Aleppo said that Russian jets also bombed Alhalwaniya roundabout area and the neighborhood of Sheikh Saeed neighborhood, injuring 3 civilians and causing material damage.
Airstrikes by the Russian forces also hit the towns of Huraytan, Anadan, Hayan, Marea and Maaret Alartiq, causing civilian casualties. The intensive aerial bombardment on northern rural Aleppo is primarily aimed to enable regime forces to take control of the Castello road, the last supply route to the rebel-held parts of Aleppo.
Member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee Yasser Alfarhan said that the continued barbaric crimes by the Assad regime and Russia against the Syrian people hinder the political process and undermine all chances of reaching a political solution.
Alfarhan added that Russia’s use of internationally banned weapons in Syria clearly shows how far Russia is prepared to go down the road of military solution in order to impose a political solution that is favorable to the Assad regime. (Source: Syrian Coalition + Smart News)
