The Assad regime persists in the targeted elimination of civilians detained in its prisons, as the family of Basil al-Barazi, a young man from the province of Daraa, discovered on Monday that he had died under torture in the notorious Sednaya military prison.
According to the Ahrar Houran Conglomerate activist group, the family of 28-year-old Basil received the distressing news on Monday about his death under torture at Sednaya prison. Basil had been arrested by the Assad regime’s security services in 2018.
The activist group revealed that Basil Al-Barazi, hailing from the village of Al-Ajami in the western countryside of Daraa, had previously been a member of the Free Syrian Army. He was detained in 2018 at one of the regime’s security checkpoints while en route to liberated areas in northern Syria.
The Ahrar Houran Conglomerate reported that 126 victims from Daraa province have succumbed to torture in Assad regime detention centers since the regime regained control of the province in July 2018.
In response, the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) emphasized that the ongoing murder of detainees by the Assad regime’s security services underscores the regime’s disregard for international resolutions. It indicates that, even after 12 years of relentless killing and destruction, the Assad regime has not satisfied its appetite for shedding Syrian blood. This calls for urgent and tangible international action to rescue the remaining detainees in the Assad regime’s prisons.
