Assad Regime Intensifies Bombing on Vital Civilian Facilities in Northern Rural Hama

An intensified bombing campaign on northern rural Hama by the Assad regime and Russian forces has destroyed about 20 power transformers and caused massive damage to the power grids in and around the town of Latamina, the local council in the town of said on Wednesday.

Mohammed Abu Azzam, director of the services office in the council told Smart News Network that electricity has been cut off from the town for nearly two years due to destroyed electricity infrastructure.

The constant shelling by regime forces has also set fire to dozens of hectares of wheat and olive crops in the farmlands located between the town of Latamina and Zallaqiyat. The council stressed that the Assad regime is seeking to deprive the local population in the liberated areas of their main source of living.

Residents of Latamina had to seek refuge in caves in and around the town due to the relentless shelling and lack of electricity.

Latamina has been subjected to artillery and aerial bombardment for years. The bombardment has killed and injured hundreds of civilians and caused widespread destruction to civilian homes and vital civilian facilities and infrastructure.

In mid-May, the council appealed to humanitarian organizations to relieve residents in the town and the surrounding villages in light of the constant shelling. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
