The Assad regime and Russian forces continued their military operations in the ‘de-escalation zone’ in northwestern Syria as local activists said that the bombings and shelling were concentrated on the town of Khan Sheikhoun in rural Idlib.
According to activists, the shelling killed a civilian and wounded one another in Khan Sheikhoun on Friday, which was hit with cluster bombs.
The town was subjected to intensive shelling on Thursday, which resulted in the death of three civilians. The Syrian civil defense said that the Russian air force carried out at least 15 airstrikes on the town, while the Assad regime conducted 35 airstrikes and dropped five barrel bombs as well as fired seven heavy artillery shells on the town.
The Russian forces also carried out four airstrikes on the town of Kafarsijnah, while similar attacks targeted the towns of Madaya, Khwain, Tamana’a, and Armanaya in southern rural Idlib. (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
