Civil Defense: Hundreds Killed in Bombardment of Idlib in June as Assad Regime & Russia Intensify Bombing Campaign in Idlib

The Syrian Civil Defense Corps in Idlib said that no fewer than 127 civilians were killed and hundreds more injured, mostly women and children, in bombings by the Assad regime and Russian forces in the province in June.

Communications Officer of the Civil Defense Corps in Idlib Ahmed Sheikho told Smart News Network said that the victims included 23 children and 24 women as well as a civil defense volunteer. He noted that 1,107 people, including 299 women, 262 children, and 14 rescue workers, were injured during the reporting period.

Sheikho pointed out that the majority of the civilian casualties were the result of aerial and ground bombardment by the Assad regime and its allies. He added that the death toll included people who were killed in road accidents, explosions of unexploded ordnance (UXO), and those who drowned in reservoirs and ponds in the province. He noted that the figure did not include those who were killed in explosions of IEDs, booby-traps, and landmines.

The civil defense teams conducted over 1,262 search and rescue operations in June, Sheikho said. It also conducted 1,612 service works, extinguished 313 fires, and removed 132 UXO items.

Since it was founded, the Syrian Civil Defense Corps, also known as the White Helmets, have rescued more than 200,000 people from attacks by the Assad regime and its allies against civilians in Syria.
