Activists on the ground said that 12 people were killed in Russian airstrikes that targeted the area located between the towns of Zamalka and Hazza in eastern Ghouta yesterday. The death toll from rocket shelling and airstrikes by regime forces on the districts of Misraba and Douma yesterday rose to nine people. A civil defense worker was among those killed.
Yesterday, the civil defense teams in eastern Ghouta organized a sit-in under the title “One Body, One Pain” to show solidarity with the besieged town of Madaya. They also organized a fundraiser in all its centers in eastern Ghouta to collect aid for the residents trapped in Madaya.
Meanwhile, clashes continued between regime forces and rebel fighters on several fronts in Al-Marj area in eastern Ghouta, with intense shelling by regime forces on the rebel-held areas.
Activists said that the Assad regime’s air force dropped over 50 barrel bombs on the town of Darayya west of Damascus in the past 24 hours and hit the town with nearly 21 surface-to-surface rockets.
Despite the heavy shelling by regime forces, rebel fighters in Darayya continued to hold off regime attacks on the town and managed to recapture the positions they previously lost. They also destroyed a tank and a Chilka vehicle belonging to regime forces and killed five pro-regime militants. According to Darayya provincial council, many pro-regime militants were also injured during the ongoing clashes with rebel fighters, including the commander of the attacking forces.
