Monitoring Group Says Assad & Allies Continue to Target Vital Civilian Centers

More vital civilian centers in Syria are coming under attack as the Assad regime and its Russian ally and the Iranian terrorist groups are carrying on with military operations in many areas across Syria. A total of 21 attacks targeted vital civilian centers in May, a rights group said.

In a new report released on Friday, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that the Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian allies were responsible for 43 percent of the attacks. The Assad regime and Iranian militias targeted three centers, while the Russian forces attacked six more during the reporting period.

Assad regime and Russian forces have intensified the bombing campaign in Idlib province, northern rural Aleppo and northeastern rural Hama in recent weeks.

The report indicated out that the latest figure has brought to 415 the number of attacks on vital civilian centers since the beginning of 2018. Activists said that Assad forces are intentionally targeting vital civilian centers and destroying all infrastructure to force the local population to flee, adding that the mass forced displacement policy Assad regime is pursuing is aimed at bringing about demographic change in Syria.

The Network called upon the UN Security Council to force the Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian allies to abide by resolution 2139 and condemn the targeting of vital civilian centers. It also called for the imposition of an arms embargo on the Assad regime, referring Syria to the International Criminal Court, and expanding sanctions on the Assad regime and its allies because of the war crimes and crimes against humanity they are committing in Syria.
