Regime Shelling Kills a Civilian & Wounds Many in Northern Rural Aleppo Monday

The Assad regime forces and their allied Iranian terrorist militias on Monday renewed shelling on rural Aleppo, killing one civilian and injuring many others.

The escalation came just a few days following the Istanbul quartet summit which saw the adoption of a joint statement stressing the need to preserve the Idlib agreement and develop into a nationwide ceasefire.

Local activists said that Assad troops stationed in the Handarat camp near Aleppo shelled the town of Hayyan north of Aleppo with heavy artillery, killing one person and wounding many others.

The nearby town of Mansoura also came under intense shelling by regime forces stationed at the Military Academy near Aleppo, without reports of casualties among civilians.

In Hama province, the Assad regime and Russian forces intensified artillery and rocket shelling on rebel-held areas north of the city. The shelling hit the perimeter of the Turkish observation post near the town of Morek, without reports of casualties. Similar attacks also targeted the towns of Lataminah, the outskirts of the town of Atshan, the village of Janabra, and the outskirts of the town of Kafranbouda.

Local activists pointed out that regime forces have stepped up rocket and artillery shelling on rebel-held areas over the past few days. The Syrian Coalition said that this escalation “has always coincided with attempts to push the political process forward.” It noted the Assad regime is clearly seeking to hamper the political process, calling on the international community to take the necessary measures to stop this escalation.
