Rights Group: 267 Civilians Killed in Syria in August, Mostly in Idlib

The Syrian Network for Human Rights said that it registered the deaths of 267 civilians in Syria in August, the majority of whom were killed in Idlib province. It said that the figure included 25 people who died under torture.

In a report issued on Sunday, the Network said that the victims included 72 children and 21 women. It noted that of the total number of deaths, 130 were civilians killed by the Assad regime forces, including 36 children and 12 women. Attacks by the Russian forces killed 60 civilians, including 15 children and seven women.

The monitoring group noted that the PYD militia killed nine civilians, including four children and a woman, while two civilians were killed by ISIS and one civilian by HTS militant group. The Network said that the victims included 63 civilians, including 17 children and one woman, who were killed by groups that the Network was not able to identify.

Of those killed under torture, 18 were killed by the Assad regime, one by HTS, one by the PYD militia, and five others, including a woman, who were killed by unidentified parties.

The Network said it recorded seven massacres in August, three of which were committed by the Assad regime forces, three by the Russian forces, and one massacre by other parties.

The victims included two medical personnel killed in Russia’s attacks, three civil defense volunteers killed at the hands of Assad regime and Russian forces, and one media activist killed at the hands of HTS, the Network said.

The Network called on the UN envoy to Syria to condemn the crimes and massacres and those responsible for the collapse of the de-escalation zone agreements and hold those responsible. (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people’s unity within the same Syrian soil
is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its
symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes
against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
