Rights Group: 78 Civilians Killed & 138 Detained Across Syria in April

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that it had registered the deaths of at least 78 civilians, including 14 children and seven women, across Syria in April. It said that the victims included one medical worker and 10 detainees who were killed under torture. It also said it had recorded one massacre in the same month.

In a report issued on Tuesday, the Network said that it had recorded at least 138 cases of arbitrary arrests, including six against women, the majority of which were carried out by the Assad regime forces. It added that the majority of attests took place in the provinces of Deir Ezzor and Rural Damascus.

The Network also said that last it had recorded no fewer than five attacks on vital civilian centers in the last month, including one school, two places of worship, and two popular markets.

Moreover, the Network said that the Assad regime and Russian forces have committed various crimes, including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, torture and enforced disappearance, adding that attacks by these forces and indiscriminate bombardment have destroyed buildings and structures.

The Assad regime violated international humanitarian and customary international law as well as UN Security Council resolutions, most notably resolution 2139, resolution 2042 on the release of detainees, and resolution 2254 with impunity, the rights group said.

The Network called for disclosing the fate of nearly 83,000 Syrian citizens in the custody of the Assad regime’s security services and complying with UN Security Council resolutions and customary humanitarian law. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
