Rights Group: Assad Regime Killed Three Medical Personnel in July

The Assad regime killed three medical and humanitarian personnel in Syria during the month of July, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said.

In a report documenting attacks on vital civilian centers during July, the monitoring group said it recorded seven such attacks across Syria during the reporting period.

According to the Network, the militias of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) were responsible for the death of a medical worker.

The Network stressed that the indiscriminate bombardment "constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law and amounts to a war crime." It renewed calls for “the imposition of a total arms embargo on the Assad regime and stopping the support of armed groups that do not abide by international humanitarian law.”

The report indicated that the months of July and June witnessed a "noticeable decrease" in the number of violations against medical facilities and civil defense centers following the announcement of the “de-escalation zones” agreement which took effect in May.

The watchdog group concluded its report by calling on the UN Security Council to force the Assad regime to implement UNSC Resolution 2139 as well as to condemn the targeting of vital civilian centers. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
