Rights Group: Over 6,686 Syrians Killed by Russian Forces Since Start of Russian Intervention

The Syrian Network for Human Rights said that the Russian occupation forces have killed 6,686 people, including 908 women and 1928 children, since the start of the Russian direct military intervention on the side of the Assad regime on September 30, 2015.

In a report issued on Wednesday, the Network said that the Russian forces committed as many as 335 massacres and carried out 1,083 attacks on vital civilian centers and populated areas. It said that the Russian bombing campaign has displaced about 3.3 million people in Syria.

The Network added that the victims of the Russian attacks were killed in both indiscriminate bombardment and deliberate bombardment carried out based on geographical coordinates and intelligence information, which constitutes war crimes. It pointed out that the Russian forces supported regime forces in three chemical weapons attacks.

The monitoring group pointed out that the New York Times newspaper is conducting investigations into Russian attacks on civilian centers that caused civilian casualties, noting that Russia is actively involved in hundreds of violations.

The Network said that it has set up a database to record and archive violations committed by Russian forces, noting that it is documenting crimes and violations being committed by Russian forces in Syria. (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
