Assad forces continue to escalate shelling on towns and villages of eastern Ghouta, targeting residential areas with heavy artillery and rockets. The shelling has resulted in many civilian casualties, including many children.
Activists in the Damascus suburb of eastern Ghouta on Friday said that one person was killed and many others were wounded in the town of Ayn Tarma as a result of artillery and rocket shelling by Assad forces targeting residential areas. Regime forces also continue with attempts to advance on the outskirts of the rebel-held town.
Activists also said that Assad regime forces carried out rocket and artillery shelling on the towns of Saqba and Otayya as well as the district of Jobar in eastern Damascus. The shelling resulted in the death of one person and the injury of three others. The shelling, deliberately targeting civilians homes, began in the early morning hours of Friday and lasted until late at night. Eastern Ghouta has been subjected to intensifying onslaught by Assad regime forces and their allied foreign militias for the last two months.
In addition to the escalating shelling on eastern Ghouta, the area has been subjected to suffocating siege by Assad regime forces and their allies who prevent the entry of UN aid convoys in violation of the international resolutions on Syria.
Medical sources earlier warned of a humanitarian disaster affecting hundreds of cancer patients in eastern Ghouta should medicine is not allowed to be introduced to the area in the next few weeks.
Doctor Wissam Alroz told Anadolu Agency that 559 cancer patients were threatened with imminent death in eastern Ghouta due to lack of medicine. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department + Agencies)
