In cooperation with the local council in the town of Ayn Jara in northern rural Aleppo and education officials in the region, members of the Free Aleppo Governorate Council on Wednesday held a sit-in protest to show solidarity with the displaced people residing in IDPs camps in northern Syrian.
Speaking to Hurriya Press local news network, Hanan Orabi, Director of the Women’s Office in the Free Aleppo Governorate Council said that the IDPs in the region are suffering severe shortages of food supplies and heating equipment. She pointed out that the majority of displaced people live in worn out tents that hardly protect them from cold and rain in the harsh winter conditions.
Orabi pointed out that the most affected groups are women and children, noting that the main goal of the sit-on protest is to find quick, radical solutions to the suffering of the displaced people in these camps.
Participants in the sit-in protest held signs that read “we fled from the hell of the Assad regime to humiliation in the camps,” and “if you show mercy to those who are on the earth, He Who is in the heaven will show mercy to you.”
Activists in northern rural Idlib earlier reported that there are about 1,100 households suffering from severe shortages of bread.
The people who have been displaced by the Assad forces to northern Syria suffer dire living conditions amid lack of basic services and shortages of food and medical supplies. Local councils and humanitarian organizations has sent repeated appeals to international donor and aid groups urging them to provide the IDPs with vaccines, medicines, and heating equipment especially with the onset of winter.
