The directorate of education in the province of Idlib on Friday extended the suspension of schools in several areas of the province for an additional two days for fears over the safety of students as airstrikes by the Assad regime and Russian forces continue.
In a statement published on its Facebook page, the directorate said that the decision to extend the suspension of schools came after consultations with the directors of educational centers in the province. The statement said the suspension will continue until next Monday.
Schools will be suspended in the towns of Ariha, Jisr Alshughur, Maarret Alnu’man, Kafranbel, Khan Shaykhun and Idlib city.
Towns and villages in Idlib province have been subjected to intensified aerial bombardment by the Assad regime and Russian forces in recent weeks. The airstrikes killed and injured hundreds of civilians, according to the civil defense and activists.
Last week, local councils in the towns of Sarmin, Maaret Misrin, and Sarmada announced the suspension of schools for fear of aerial bombardment targeting these towns.
The Assad regime and Russian forces have lately intensified the bombing campaign on Idlib province despite the cease-fire agreement signed on December 29 and which covers all Syria except the areas controlled by ISIS and Fateh Al-Sham Front. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department + Agencies)
