The Assad regime continues to kill detainees in its prisons, as three brothers from Dara’a province died under torture about a year and a half of detention. Another detainee from the district of Harasta, east of the capital, Damascus, was killed under torture as well.
Local activists said that the three brothers are from the town of Ibtaa in rural Dara’a. They are: Haitham, Hussam and Ahmad Abu Halawa. Their family learned of their death from the police station in the town of Ibtaa.
The activists indicated that the three young men had been detained a year and a half ago during an arrest campaign that was carried out by the regime’s Air Force Intelligence although they agreed to enter into the so-called reconciliation agreements with guarantees from Russia.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) on Thursday said that the family of the detainee Abdo Saqr learned of his death through the regime’s State Security Branch, also known as the Khatib Branch on March 15, 2020.
The Assad regime’s security forces also handed over a death notice to another detainee from the town of Sheikh Masqin to his family on February 21, 2020.
Dara’a province has seen escalating tensions in recent months following frequent assassinations by unknown gunmen targeting former Free Syrian Army fighters and former members of the local councils. Activists accuse the Assad regime of standing behind these attacks. (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
