Tribal Council in Azaz Denounces SDF Militias’ Practices Against People of Manbij

The Revolutionary Tribal Council in the town of Azaz in northern rural Aleppo on Friday organized a protest to denounce the practices of the militia of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against the town of Manbij.

Waving flag of the Syrian revolution, protestors denounced the SDF militias’ subjection of predominantly Arab areas, such as Manbij, Tal Rifaat, and Raqqa to Kurdish control.

Demonstrators also expressed their rejection of separatist plans and division as they chanted slogans for freedom and unity, including ‘freedom forever,’ ‘yes to all components of Syrian society,’ and ‘we want a nucleus of a state.’

Around 20 tribal and community leaders participated in the demonstration and held sings that read ‘no to tyranny and corruption,’ ‘our revolution continues,’ and ‘death or victory.’

Earlier this month, the town of Manbij witnessed a general strike to protest over the forced recruitment imposed by the SDF militia on people of the town, while demonstrations took to the streets in the villages east of Manbij to protest against the decision.

The Ministry of Defense in the Syrian Interim Government (SIG) condemned the decision by the SDF militia to impose forced recruitment on young men in the town of Manbij in northeastern rural Aleppo.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry said that the PYD militia’s decision to impose forced recruitment is aimed at "serving its separatist ambitions in particular and contravenes the values and principles of the Syrian people as well as international law and international humanitarian law."
