UNRWA: Assad Regime Bombings Reduced Yarmouk Camp into Rubble

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) on Monday said that the Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees in Damascus lies today in ruins, with hardly a single building that has not been destroyed or damaged.

The fighting has been particularly intense in the last month or more, the agency said. It added that almost all the Palestinian refugees who were there have now fled.

Meanwhile, the Action Group for Palestinians of Syria (AGPS) said that the people who remained in the Yarmouk camp dug up the body of Palestinian refugee Yassin Maghribi from under the rubble of his bombed house in the Magharba neighborhood on Monday.

The AGPS monitoring group said that that at least 33 Palestinian refugees were killed in the onslaught regime forces launched to recapture the Yarmouk camp located in southern Damascus.

The AGPS’s Monitoring and Documentation Team warned that the number of civilian casualties could be much higher as many bodies are still trapped under the rubble of bombed buildings.

The Assad regime’s ruthless bombings did not spare even underground shelters inside the camp, targeting them with missiles and barrel bombs that killed and injured dozens of civilians. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people’s unity within the same Syrian soil
is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its
symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes
against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
