The Syrian National Coalition’s Department of Foreign Relations held its periodic meeting and discussed the latest political and on the ground developments.
Participants discussed the mechanisms for implementing the Department's work plan for the first quarter of 2020. The plan will focus on strengthening relations with friendly and sisterly countries with the aim of mobilizing support the Syrian people's revolution and their legitimate rights to freedom and democracy as well as reaching a political solution in accordance with UN resolutions, most notably the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN resolution 2254.
The plan included the holding of more meetings and visits to the foreign missions and ambassadors of friendly and sisterly countries to highlight the grave situation in Idlib and stress the need to alleviate the humanitarian disaster resulting from the bombing and the mass displacement of civilians.
The Departments touched on the tasks of the Coalition’s foreign missions in the European Union and the Arab countries and their future work plan. It stressed the need to activate the work of these missions and hold various meetings with the official and popular bodies in those countries so as to establish the best relations that serve the common interests. The Syrian Interim Government’s Minister of Local Administration Muhammad Suleiman on Tuesday toured the temporary accommodation centers built in the town of Afrin to shelter civilians being displaced from Idlib province. He checked on the conditions of the IDP and listened to their most basic and urgent needs.
Suleiman was accompanied by heads of the local councils in the Afrin region who said they stood ready to help relieve the IDP.
The Ministry of Local Administration said that the continued brutal bombardment and shelling by the Assad regime and Russia on Idlib province have so far forced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes. It called for urgent action by the United Nations and international relief organizations to mitigate the effects of this humanitarian disaster.
The Ministry pointed out that the Directorate of the Affairs of Displaced Persons and the local councils took part in an urgent response initiative in the Afrin region to provide relief aid to the IDP. It added that the Directorate is working to coordinate and combine efforts to alleviate the suffering of the IDP and meet their needs.
The Ministry thanked the groups and bodies that are contributing to the provision of humanitarian assistance to the people being displaced as a result of the Assad regime and Russia’s escalating crimes. (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
