On the seventy-eighth anniversary of Evacuation Day, the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) extends heartfelt salutations to the Syrian people. This occasion holds profound significance for Syrians, symbolizing their unwavering commitment to freedom and their determination to fulfill the legacy entrusted to them by their forebears. They strive to reclaim Syria’s independence and unity – a legacy for which previous generations made great sacrifices, envisioning a homeland where freedom flourishes, dignity is preserved, and rights are safeguarded.
Evacuation Day, observed on April 17, 1946, serves as a poignant reminder of Syria’s struggle for sovereignty and serves as a source of inspiration for Syrians. It reinforces their resolve in the ongoing revolution to reclaim their human and constitutional rights, liberate themselves from tyranny and lawlessness, and reject sectarianism, terrorism, and foreign interference perpetuated by the Assad regime. Syrians demand freedom, justice, and democracy, asserting their right to a state founded on equality for all citizens.
The SOC underscores that Syria’s liberation and the restoration of its people’s sovereignty across the entire nation hinge upon the unity of Syrians, transcending sectarian divides. It calls for intensified efforts across all segments of society to rid Syria of occupation, tyranny, extremism, and terrorism. Together, Syrians aspire to build a future worthy of their sacrifices – from the Great Syrian Revolution in 1925, the genesis of their quest for independence, to the revolutionary fervor ignited in 2011, marking a pursuit of dignity, justice, and freedom, embodying a quest for a second independence revolution that paves the path towards a democratic state grounded in political pluralism and the rule of law, free from discrimination.
The SOC remains steadfast in its belief that the Syrian people will ultimately triumph, unfurling the banner of freedom and independence anew. They endeavor to herald a new era, fueled by the resilience, loyalty, and zest for life of its people, after enduring decades of adversity and strife.
May mercy and eternal rest be granted to the courageous heroes of both the first and second independence.
Let freedom be bestowed upon detainees and those held captive.
May displaced people and refugees find their way home.
Here’s to the longevity of a liberated and dignified Syria.
