The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SMHR) rights group said that at least 87 civilians have been killed in bombardment and shelling by the Assad regime and its allies on Idlib and Aleppo provinces since the truce agreement was announced on January 12.
The Network pointed out that the victims included 33 children and 11 women, noting that the region has witnessed a military escalation since April 26, 2019 by the Assad regime and Russian forces. It said that the ongoing campaign “has been the fiercest compared to previous military campaigns.”
The monitoring group pointed out that the Assad regime and Russian forces committed 66 massacres in northwestern Syria between April 26 and January 27, 2020. It added that regime forces committed 45 massacres, while Russian forces committed 21 others.
According to the Network, these massacres claimed the lives of 542 civilians, including 187 children and 107 women who accounted for 55 percent of the victims, which is a very high percentage and an indication that the attacks are mainly targeting the civilian population.
The Network said that a regime airstrike on January 15 killed 22 civilians, including two children and a Civil Defense volunteer as well as injured about 68 others.
