A number of Syrian dissident figures announced the establishment of “Upcoming Syria Current” on Sunday during a two-day meeting in Istanbul. President Khoja, his deputy Mustafa Osso and Secretary-General Mohammed Yahya Maktabi were present at the meeting.
President Khoja expressed hopes that the Upcoming Syria Current to take a role along with the rest of the revolution and opposition forces in furthering the revolution’s efforts towards restoring stability and end chaos that was caused by the Assad regime and terrorism.
In the final communique, the Upcoming Syria Current holds the Assad regime responsible for Syria’s devastation and destruction, blaming it for foreign intervention in Syria.
“Assad is responsible for violence plaguing the country by insisting on security and military solutions, and bears responsibility for the escalation of sectarian tensions that he deliberately devised,” the closing statement said.
“We see every foreign presence on Syria’s territory as a clear and direct occupation, whether it is a military intervention or through summoning partiers that are alien to the Syrian people, the objectives of their revolution and their aspirations.”
“We do not see all who took up arms against Assad as true revolutionaries, nor do we accept transforming Syria into cantons ruled by warlords. It is vital, therefore, to put the revolution back on track and lay out labels to make a distinction between revolutionary and criminal acts,” the closing statement added. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
