An Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) general has been killed during the latest fighting north of Aleppo along with six other IRGC officers.
IRGC ground forces commander Mohammad Pakpour announced Thursday that Brigadier General Mohsen Qaryajan was “martyred during an advisory mission in Syria,” according to Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency.
Qaryajan was the commander of the IRGC’s 21st Armored Brigade—also known as the Imam Reza Brigade—based in the northeastern Iranian city of Nishapur. He had lead the unit since 2010.
Fars agency also reported that six other IRGC officers were also killed fighting Syrian rebels near Aleppo. They are: Mehdi Kojak Zadeh, Syed Ali Zadeh,Hassan Razzaghi, Hojjatoallah Sheikh Mustafa Khalili, Habib Rahimi Minish and Mohammad Eskandari.
Fighting continues to rage in northern rural Aleppo between rebel fighters and regime forces backed by foreign militias and by Russian aerial cover. The Russian air force conducted no fewer than 500 air raids on the area over the past seventy hours alone. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
