Syrians in opposition-held territories marked on Friday the fifth anniversary of the revolution with protests in over 100 locations, declaring “the revolution goes on.”
Crowds took to the streets in Aleppo, rural Homs, Dara’a, Idlib and Damascus, reviving the slogans of the 2011 uprising: “The Syrian people want freedom”, “the people want to overthrow the regime” and “the Syrian people are one.”
Holding the revolution flag above all other flags, protesters held placards and chanted slogans demanding the departure of Assad, the release of prisoners, and lifting blockades on areas besieged by regime forces.
The Kurdish Youth Movement (TCK) also took to the streets to mark the fifth anniversary of the Syrian revolution in Derick area in Al-Hasaka province. Members of the movement held the flag of the revolution and chanted slogans showing solidarity with Syrian cities and towns that are subjected to shelling and siege by regime forces. They also emphasized the legitimate rights of the Kurds in Syria and demanded the overthrow of the Assad regime.
Protestors across Syria also expressed outright rejection of the PYD’s announcement of the establishment of a so-called federal region in northwestern. They warned that this move represents the first step towards the partitioning of Syria, which is completely unacceptable. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
