At least 53 civilians, including women and children, were killed and many more wounded in intense bombardment by the Assad regime and Russian forces on Sunday.
Activists said that more than 75 airstrikes and barrel bomb attacks hit the rebel-held parts of Aleppo city, especially in the neighborhoods of Alhaidariya, Babis, Alhulluk, Almuyassar, and Alqaterji.
The armed opposition’s Fatej Aleppo operations room called on the international community, especially Assad’s allies, to exercise pressure on the Assad regime in order to stop its massacres in the city and abide by the truce.
The operations room described the recent attacks in Aleppo as “unprecedented,” calling on civilians in Aleppo to exercise caution and avoid gatherings. It also called for cancelling of Altarawih prayers for this year.
Spokesman for the opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC) Salem Almeslet on June 1 said that “the international community’s failure to stop the bombing and besiegement of our civilians causes the deaths of innocents every single day across Syria.”
Almeslet pointed out that the HNC proposed to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon a truce to be enforced during the month of Ramadan, which began today. (Source: Al-Jazeera + Agencies)
