Turkey Condemns Wednesday Airstrikes on Hospitals in Aleppo

The Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned the airstrikes carried out by the Assad regime and Russian forces on hospitals in Aleppo on Wednesday.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said: “We are immensely outraged by the continuation of airstrikes in a ruthless manner on hospitals, schools, mosques and other civilian targets in Syria by the regime and Russia.”

“As such, we strongly condemn the airstrikes on hospitals in Aleppo incessantly carried out since yesterday resulting in the deaths of dozens of civilians,” The Turkish Foreign Ministry added.

The Ministry also said that “among the hospitals targeted, the one in Al-Shaer district of Aleppo is reported to have been completely destroyed.”

It stressed that these attacks “constitute a deliberate act against humanity and they will undoubtedly not go unpunished.”

“Our hope is that those who are responsible for these crimes against humanity be immediately brought to justice and that cessation of these attacks and actions, which will go down as a stain in the history of mankind, be ensured by the international community without further delay,” the release added.

Vice-president of the Syrian Coalition Muwaffaq Nyrabiya on Thursday said that the Assad regime has significantly stepped up attacks on liberated areas since the conclusion of the last round of negotiations in Geneva “in blatant defiance of the United Nations resolutions.”

Nyrabiya blamed the escalation of violence by the Assad regime on Russia’s and Iran’s support for the Assad regime as well as on the “dubious silence” of the international community over these attacks. He warned that this dangerous escalation threatens to undermine the entire political process.

Activists said that at least 29 civilians, including women and children, were killed and 60 more injured as a result of aerial bombing by the Assad regime and Russian forces on several parts of Aleppo late on Wednesday.

Dozens of airstrikes targeted the rebel-held neighborhoods of Alsha’ar, Hanano, Alsalihin, Alma’adi, and Almarja. The towns of Hayyan, Huraytan and Kafar Hamra in rural Aleppo were also targeted with similar attacks on Wednesday.

The activists added that the airstrikes directly hit Alhakim and Albayan hospitals in the neighborhood of Alsha’ar, causing the disruption of services in the hospitals. A clinic in the neighborhood also had to shut down after it was directly hit by an airstrike that also caused damage to the nearby buildings. (Source: Anadolu Agency)

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
