Activists in the besieged town of Madaya in Rural Damascus have sent humanitarian appeals to the UN and humanitarian organizations to allow a child to be taken outside the town for treatment after being shot by a Hezbollah sniper nearly ten days ago.
The activists said that Ghina Qweder, nine years old, was deliberately shot by a Hezbollah sniper on August 2 inside her town. Ghina has a comminuted fracture in her right thigh.
The activists published heart-wrenching videos showing Ghina writhing in pain. The injury cannot be treated in the local hospitals due to lack of the necessary equipment and specialized doctors. Activists said they have received no responses to their appeals.
Journalist Fidaa Itani told Alsharq newspaper that the family of the child was shocked when they were told by the UN agencies that Ghina could be evacuated for treatment only if there was a similar case in the villages of Kefraya and Alfouaa, which are under siege by rebel fighters.
“It is as if the United Nations were asking rebel snipers to shoot an innocent child in the villages of Kefraya and Alfouaa so that its agencies could evacuate Ghina for treatment,” Itani said. (Source: Alsharq Newspaper)
