The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that at least 1,106 people, including 791 civilians, were killed in attacks by the Assad regime and Russian forces across Syria in October 2016.
In a report released earlier today, the Network said that regime forces were responsible for the deaths of 497 civilians, including 113 children and 92 women. At least 24 civilians died under torture in Assad’s prisons.
Around 294 civilians, including 81 children and 48 women, were killed in aerial bombardment by the Russian air force, according to the rights group.
The SNHR added that children and women accounted for nearly 42% of the total civilian casualties, which represents “a stark indication of the deliberate targeting of civilians by the Assad regime forces.”
The report said that at least 129 civilians were killed by the extremist group ISIS in Syria in October, including 32 children and 7 women. At least 3 civilians were killed by Fateh al-Sham Front in the same period. Four civilians, including a child and a woman, were killed by militias of the Democratic Union Party (PYD).
At least 15 civilians, including 14 children and 11 women, were killed in airstrikes by the US-led anti-ISIS coalition forces, the report added.
Forty Seven was the number that the SNHR said accounted for those who drowned in the sea trying to reach Europe and those civilians killed in bombings that the Network said were untraceable. A number of civilians were also killed at the hands of unknown armed groups.
