The number of people who died of their injuries after being displaced from eastern Aleppo has risen to 15, medical sources said. The injuries were caused by the brutal onslaught by the Assad regime, Russia, and the Iranian-backed militias of on the rebel-held parts of Aleppo.
The evacuation of residents in eastern Aleppo comes after a brutal three-month siege and a ferocious bombing campaign by the Assad regime and its allies using internationally banned weapons. Regime forces and Iranian-backed foreign militias backed by Russian aerial cover have launched an all-out assault to retake eastern Aleppo from the FSA and rebel fighters since November 15. At least 1,500 people, including many women and children, have been killed and over 7,000 others wounded as a result of the regime’s onslaught.
Turkish authorities on Thursday said that over 182 evacuees from eastern Aleppo have so far been admitted to hospitals inside Turkey. They added that the wounded and sick evacuees included 72 children who were moved to hospitals in the southern Hatay province in Turkish ambulances via Bab Alhawa border crossing. Around 80 patients were later moved to hospitals in other Turkish provinces, while 23 were discharged from hospitals after having received the necessary treatment.
At least 8 evacuees from eastern Aleppo succumbed to their wounds on Monday while being treated in hospitals in Hatay province, Turkish medical sources said. The evacuation from eastern Aleppo has been repeatedly delayed by the Assad regime and Iranian militias.
President of the Syrian Coalition Anas Abdah on Friday sent a letter to 25 countries and organizations as well as to the UN Secretary General Ban-Ki moon urging them to take immediate, concrete action to ensure the safety of civilians trapped in Aleppo.
Abdah stressed that the evacuation of civilians from the besieged neighborhoods of Aleppo is an operation of enforced mass displacement, which constitutes a war crime under international humanitarian law.
