At least 21 people, including children, were killed and more than 40 others were wounded in a truck bomb explosion that targeted a bus station in the town of Al-Bab in rural Aleppo on Tuesday. The blast also caused massive material damage.
The presence of the PYD terrorist militia, remnants of the Assad regime forces, and the Iranian-backed militias in the vicinity of Al-Bab and the liberated areas in northern Syria means that the region will continue to suffer terrorist explosions and assassinations.
These attacks confirm the need for additional measures to ward off terrorists and their sponsors; expand the size of the liberated areas; and clear them of terrorism and the Assad regime.
The perpetrators who planned and executed this crime must receive fitting punishment. We will no longer accept to bury the victims, remove the rubble, and cope with grief while waiting for a new crime to strike. Likewise, the Syrian people will not submit to these heinous crimes threatening the present and future of Syria.
The investigations into the circumstances surrounding these criminal terrorist attacks must rise to a new level. We will communicate with the Syrian Interim Government (SIG) and commanders of the Syrian National Army to review the existing security measures and ensure that they rise to the necessary standards and meet the most urgent needs.
The international community must show firm stance towards terrorism, its sponsors and those who invest in it. There is also a pressing need to support the Syrian National Army and SIG’s institutions in order to enable them to confront these organizations and whoever stands behind them, cut off their sources of funding and support, ensure they are dismantled, and eliminate the threats they pose.
