A total of 1,014 civilians were killed in Syria during the month of April, a rights group said. Attacks by the Assad regime and Russian forces caused the majority of deaths, while dozens of civilians were killed by the ISIS extremist group and the international anti-ISIS coalition forces.
In a report released on Monday, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that 486 civilians, including 98 children and 82 women were killed in bombardment by regime forces. Ten more civilians were killed under torture in the prisons of the Assad regime in April.
Airstrikes by the Russian forces killed at least 233 civilians, including 97 children and 40 women, according to the monitoring group.
The report indicated that 85 civilians, including 24 children and 11 women were killed by the ISIS extremist group, while 86 civilians, including 24 children and 18 women were killed in airstrikes by the international anti-ISIS coalition in April.
The report also listed 79 civilians, including 11 children and 17 women, who the Network said drowned in the sea trying to reach Europe or killed in bombings that the SNHR said were untraceable.
The SNHR called on the UN Security Council and the relevant international institutions to shoulder their responsibilities to put an end to the constant killing and destruction throughout Syria.
The SNHR also called on the international community to ratchet up pressure on the Assad regime to stop the deliberate, indiscriminate bombing of civilians. The report said that the Russian forces, the Iranian-backed militias, and ISIS are all foreign forces actively participating in killing civilians in Syria.
