Airstrikes by the Assad regime and Russian air forces killed at least 83 civilians in eastern Aleppo on late November and early December of 2016, the Syrian Network Human Rights (SNHR) said. The rights group said the airstrikes targeted the victims while they were trying to flee the besieged eastern Aleppo towards the regime-held parts of the city in the west.
In a report released on Monday, the Network said that the Assad regime and Russian forces carried out deliberate, multiple airstrikes on convoys of civilians while they were fleeing the eastern parts of Aleppo. The bombardment took place despite announcement by Assad regime officials that they had opened safe humanitarian corridors for the passage of civilians towards the regime-held parts of the city.
In early September 2017, the judge leading a new United Nations effort to investigate the conflict said that the international community has taken a “step closer” to achieving justice for war crimes committed in Syria.
Catherine Marchi-Uhel of France on late July was appointed Mrs to head the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism which was created on the orders of the United Nation General Assembly in late 2016 to gather evidence on violations in Syria.
The UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria on Monday said that Assad regime warplanes dropped a sarin-filled bomb on the town of Khan Sheikhoun in rural Idlib on April 4.
Head of the Commission Paulo Pinheiro earlier accused the Assad regime of using the sarin nerve agent against civilians in the Khan Sheikhoun and said that the displaced people in Syria are facing immense hardships across Syria, especially in the areas under the control of the Assad regime.
