Hundreds of families have fled their towns and villages in southern rural Aleppo to escape the intensified barbaric bombardment by the Russian and Assad regime air forces.
Khaled al-Humaidi, head of the local council in the town of Tal al-Dman in southern rural Aleppo said that “’at least 35,000 civilians have been displaced from their homes because of the intensive bombing by the Assad regime forces and their Russian ally.”
Humaidi pointed out that 15,000 civilians had fled the areas close to the sites of clashes between rebel fighters and regime forces near the village of Gharraf. Twenty thousand more civilians were also displaced from their homes in the villages located in the Tal al-Damah sub-district south of Aleppo.
Humaidi noted that the majority of those who were displaced currently live in tents and tin shacks in Idlib province and western rural Aleppo amid absence of all kinds of aid by humanitarian organizations and local councils and soaring costs of renting houses, even the unfinished ones.
Civilians who remained in the villages of southern Aleppo now live out in the open for fear of airstrikes by the Assad and Russia air forces on their homes, Humaidi added.
The United Nations earlier expressed its concern about the intensified airstrikes on southern rural Aleppo in the past few days resulting in dozens of civilian casualties and massive destruction to civilian property.
The Syrian Coalition condemned the Assad regime and Russia’s bombing of civilians as it called on the international community to ratchet up pressure on the Assad regime and its Russian ally to stop targeting unarmed civilians and hold those responsible accountable.
