The Re-stabilization Committee held a workshop under the title “Role of Local Councils’ Services in Combating Terrorism” in cooperation with the Syrian Interim Government (SIG) in the town of Azaz in northern rural Aleppo on Tuesday. The workshop aimed to activate the role of services in the administration and their ability to combat extremist ideology.
Head of The Re-stabilization Committee Munther Salal started his speech at the workshop by stressing the important role of services and their effectiveness in combating extremism and ISIS’s ideology in particular and extremist ideology in general.
Salal added that regular successful awareness-raising campaigns and workshops as well as the efficient provision of services can have direct, considerable influence on the community by changing their views towards moderation.
SIG’s Minister of Services Abdullah Razzouk said that one of the most important outcomes of the workshop was giving priority to education given its great role in the elimination of extremism in all its forms.
Razzouk pointed out that the empowerment of women and the realization of their important role in society as well as the activation of services institutions can contribute to the efforts to eliminate the seeds of extremism.
Razzouq said that the second part of the workshop will focus on laying out an initial strategy for the region in which priority will be given to the provision of services to the civilian population. The provision of services is capable of influencing the cultural tendencies of civilians thus keeping away them from embracing hardliner views.
