Demonstrations were held in the town of Al-Bab in northeastern rural Aleppo and the town of Inkhil in Dara’a province on Friday demanding the downfall of the Assad regime and an end to the regime’s siege of eastern Ghouta.
The demonstration in Al-Bab was organized by the tribal council in the town located northeast of Aleppo. Protestors called for the overthrow of the Assad regime and the lifting of the siege regime forces impose on eastern Ghouta in Rural Damascus.
Over 500 people took part in the demonstration in Al-Bab, including tribesmen from northern and eastern rural Aleppo. FSA commanders and tribal leaders delivered speeches rejecting the so-called reconciliation deals and negotiations with the Assad regime as long as siege and bombardment on eastern Ghouta continue.
Demonstrators waved flag of the Syrian revolution and held signs that read “break the siege of eastern Ghouta,” “no to tyranny, no to corruption”, and “children in eastern Ghouta are starving to death.”
Residents of the town of Inkhil in northern rural Dara’a held a popular demonstration demanding the lifting of the siege imposed on civilians in towns and villages of eastern Ghouta.
Demonstrators waved the flag of the Syrian revolution and held placards condemning the siege regime forces impose on eastern Ghouta. The placards read “our brothers in eastern Ghouta are eating leaves,” and “Inkhil is with you until death.” Around 300 people took part in the demonstration.
Demonstrators called on the UN Security Council and United Nations to take action to relieve the people of besieged eastern Ghouta, ensure the release of all detainees from the prisoners of the Assad regime, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to eastern Ghouta.
Meanwhile, the Sharia Committee in Damascus and its suburbs announced in a statement that the Friday prayers would not be held in eastern Gouta for fear of the intensified bombardment by regime forces on the FSA-held area.
Eastern Ghouta has been subjected to intensive airstrikes and artillery bombardment by Assad regime forces in recent weeks. Residents suffer suffocating siege regime forces have imposed on the area since 2012 and which has been tightened in recent months.
