Syrians in the liberated areas rallied on Friday to condemn US President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and transfer the US Embassy to the occupied city.
A Syrian painter painted mural of Jerusalem on one of the houses in the town of Binnish in rural Idlib to express solidarity with Jerusalem and the Palestinian people as well as to express rejection of Trump’s plans.
Syrian artist Aziz Asmar said that the situation of Jerusalem represents a deep wound in the heart, adding that Trump’s decision should be met with a strong response. He condemned the Arab’s silence over the situation of Jerusalem.
Hundreds of Syrians on Friday took to the streets of towns and villages in Dara’a and Rural Damascus to show solidarity with Jerusalem. Hundreds of Syrians also held demonstrations and sit-ins in the towns and villages of Homs, Hama and Idlib provinces.
Around 500 Syrians and Palestinian-Syrians held a sit-in in the municipal sqaure in the town of Babila south of Damascus to denounce Trump’s decision. They chanted slogans condemning the decision and held signs that read “Jerusalem is ours!”
The Syrian Coalition condemned the decision by United States President Donald Trump to recognize occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to move the US Embassy to the occupied city.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the Coalition asserted that “Jerusalem is a Palestinian Arab land. It noted that under international law, neither the Israeli occupation, as an occupying force, nor any foreign authority have the right to claim sovereignty over the city. “No decision by any one can change the historical and geographical facts or take away the rights from their owners.” (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
