Local activists are cautioning the public against placing trust in the promises of amnesty put forth by the Assad regime and its allies. They emphasize that numerous individuals who once believed in these assurances and voluntarily surrendered to the Assad regime’s security services have ended up imprisoned and detained.
Activists have reported the demise of a young man named Ali al-Mubasbes from the town of Tafas, located in the western countryside of Daraa. He passed away in Sednaya military prison nearly five years after his initial arrest.
The Free Houran Conglomerate has indicated that al-Mubasbes had defected from the Assad regime’s military forces. Despite visiting him periodically while he was incarcerated, his family received his death certificate and personal identification papers from the regime’s security agencies on Thursday. They had been informed that he was undergoing treatment in the military hospital and hence could not be visited, when in fact he was in the prison.
Activists have cautioned against placing faith in the Assad regime and its previously made false promises, especially in conjunction with their Russian ally. Russia had positioned itself as a guarantor of the settlement agreement in southern Syria, yet numerous army defectors in the Daraa province have reportedly met their demise under torture after their surrender to the regime.
On August 6, another distressing incident unfolded as Faraj al-Jamous, a young man from the town of Dael, lost his life due to torture in Sednaya military prison. His arrest had extended for approximately five years.
