Anti-regime demonstrations in Suwayda and its surrounding countryside have persisted for the nineteenth consecutive day as protestors assembled in the city center on Thursday. Their demands remain resolute: political change and the removal of the Assad regime.
In a striking display of peaceful protest, demonstrators adorned the square with lilies and filled the air with chants, conveying the message to the Assad regime that their weapons are beauty and peace. Civil initiatives have also continued since the onset of the protests, underscoring the identity and aspirations of the participants.
Notably, female protestors gathered at Karama Square in central Suwayda on Wednesday to send a powerful message to those who have hesitated or feared joining the demonstrations. Their message was clear: “Raise your voice, overcome your fear, your freedom will shake mountains.”
Meanwhile, the town of Salkhad, situated to the south of Suwayda, bore witness to the largest demonstration against the Assad regime since 2011, featuring extensive participation from local residents. In a show of unity, residents of the village of Al-Janina also staged an evening demonstration with protestors hailing from neighboring villages.
