The Syrian Civil Defense Corps said that many civilians were killed and wounded in aerial bombardment by the Assad regime and Russian air forces on Idlib province on Tuesday. The Syrian Coalition warned of humanitarian disaster of unprecedented proportions in the province which is home to more than two million people.
As many as 12 airstrikes hit Idlib province on Tuesday, the most violent of which targeted the towns of Ariha and Jisr al-Shughour in southwestern rural Idlib. The Civil Defense in Idlib said that the attacks claimed the lives of seven civilians, including two children, and injured 21 others.
The Civil Defense said that two civilians were killed in the town of Ariha and two others in the village of Sukkariya as a result of airstrikes by the Assad regime’s air force.
The Syrian Coalition has recently sent letters to the United Nations, friends of Syria, and the Arab League to highlight the situation in Idlib province and to warn of the threat of continued military attacks on the province. It called for the protection of civilians in Idlib as the province is the sole destination for all the people who have been forcibly displaced from their areas by the Assad regime and Russia. The Coalition warned of an unprecedented humanitarian disaster should these attacks continue.
Rights groups warned of the dire consequences of the bombings of the densely populated Idlib province. The Syrian Network for Human Rights said that nearly half a million people were forcibly displaced from their homes in the five months preceding the ruthless onslaught on eastern Ghouta.
The Syrian Coalition renewed calls on the international community to take serious action towards the wholesale crimes being committed by the Assad regime and Russia against the civilians in Syria.
