The Syrian Civil Defense has reported that the Assad regime and Russia persist in their assaults on northwestern Syria, resulting in casualties and displacement among the Syrian population.
According to a Thursday report by the Civil Defense, the military escalation initiated by the Assad regime and Russian forces in October has led to the deaths of 49 civilians, including 13 children and 10 women, along with injuries to 230 civilians, comprising 67 children and 63 women across 60 towns and villages in northwestern Syria.
The report reveals that the regime forces have carried out at least 100 artillery attacks, 68 rocket attacks, 5 missile attacks utilizing incendiary munitions, one missile strike deploying cluster bombs, and 14 airstrikes conducted by Russian warplanes.
Russian air raids on the village of Ishtabraq in the western countryside of Idlib have resulted in the injury of one woman. Additionally, airstrikes by Russia targeted the Al-Qashwa IDP camp on the outskirts of Al-Sheikh town, leading to the injuries of two women and a girl, as well as the displacement of all camp residents, estimated at approximately 30 families. In separate Russian airstrikes on towns and villages in the southern countryside of Idlib, a woman and her husband lost their lives, and another man was injured.
The report highlights that the Assad regime and Russian forces, during their heightened attacks this month, have indiscriminately targeted civilians, critical infrastructure, and essential facilities in northwestern Syria.
The Syrian Civil Defense has issued a warning of an impending a major humanitarian crisis due to the relentless assaults by the Assad regime and Russia. They emphasize that as winter approaches and a new wave of displacement begins, the human suffering will intensify further.
