Syrian artist Farid Abu Rajab drew a mural of the slain media activist Ibrahim Al-Munajir in the town of Nawa in western rural Dara’a to pay tribute to Munajir and in recognition of the efforts Syrian media activists are making under these difficult circumstances.
Abu Rajab, who is known for drawing many murals depicting people, said that the drawing was a token of gratitude for the efforts Munajir made before he was killed.
Unknown gunmen on Thursday shot Munajir in front of his home in the town of Saida. Munjar was buried in his hometown of Tal Shihab.
Munajir worked as a correspondent for the local Shaam News Network, Hawa Smart radio, and Smart News Network. He prepared dozens of reports for local news networks as well as Arab and international TV channels.
Munjar also covered most of the battles between the Free Syrian Army and the Assad regime forces in Dara’a province as well as documented hundreds of Assad regime airstrikes on the province.
The Syrian Coalition earlier condemned all terrorist attacks and violations against journalists in Syria as well as the Assad regime’s brutal, systematic crackdown on freedom of the press and expression.
According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, at least 29 journalists and media activists were killed across Syria from January 1 to late April 2018. It pointed out that a total of 638 journalists and media activists have been killed in Syria since the start of the revolution, mostly at the hands of the Assad regime.
