Dozens of people in Al-Hasaka province in eastern Syria on Friday protested against the crimes and violent practices of the militia of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) against Syrian civilians in the areas under the militia’s control. The Syrian Coalition earlier said that the PYD militia is copying the same repressive policies the Assad regime pursues to terrorize and intimidate the Syrian people.
Activists in Al-Hasaka city said that dozens of people demonstrated in the neighborhood of Al-Nashwa al-Gharbiya to demand the release of the detainees and forcibly disappeared people, many of them are children and women. They also denounced the crimes of being committed by the PYD terrorist group, most notably murder, arbitrary arrests, and forced recruitment.
Activists pointed out that demonstrators burned tires to prevent the PYD militiamen from trying to disperse the demonstration by force or detain the demonstrators.
Activists reported that two more demonstrations were held in the town of Tal Hamis in the Qamishli sub-district and the village of Samihan Gharbi near the town of Tal Barraq northeast of Al-Hasaka. Activists said that dozens of protestors forced PYD militiamen out of the two towns after they came to detain young people for compulsory recruitment into their ranks.
The Syrian Coalition condemned the crimes and violations being committed by the PYD militia, calling for a complete and immediate cessation of all forms of support for the militia.
