The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) said that the Assad regime and Russian forces attacked three healthcare centers in Syria in May, saying that such attacks have been ‘deliberate and systematic.’
In a new report released on Wednesday, the Network said that the attacks targeted civil defense centers, a Syrian Arab Red Crescent center, and a medical center that is supported by the Syrian American Medical Society.
The monitoring group indicated that bombings by the Assad regime and Russian air forces killed six civil defense volunteers in May, which has brought to 73 the number of medical workers who have been killed in Syria since the beginning of 2018.
The Network stressed the need for the UN Security Council to force the Assad regime to implement resolution 2139 calling for a halt to attacks on vital civilian centers.
Activists stressed that the targeting of vital medical centers is aimed at denying the civilian population all means of survival through subjecting them to relentless bombardment.
The Network also emphasized the need to impose an arms embargo on the Assad regime and to refer Syria to the international Criminal Court to ensure that those responsible for such attacks are held accountable. The Assad regime has been deliberately destroying all vital civilian infrastructure to force the local population to leave their homes as part of the mass forced displacement policy the Assad regime adopts to bring about demographic change in Syria.
The Syrian Coalition earlier said that that the Assad regime’s indiscriminate bombardment of the populated areas is aimed at forcing the local communities out of their homes to pave the way for the resettlement of its allied foreign militias in these areas and to bring about a demographic change in all Syrian territory. The Coalition underscored that these acts constituted war crimes that must be referred to the International Criminal Court. (Source: Syrian Coalition’s Media Department)
