The Assad regime and Russian forces have further escalated the onslaught on Dara’a province, launching intense airstrikes on the rebel-held areas late on Tuesday. The serious military escalation was coupled with largescale ground offensive by Assad forces and the Iranian terrorist militias, resulting in the death and injury of dozens of civilians and the displacement of a large number of families to open, arid plains in the province.
Local activists said that eight civilians were killed and 10 others were injured in airstrikes targeting residential areas in the towns and villages of eastern rural Dara’a on Monday.
Activists added that Russian jets rained high-explosive bombs on the province, adding that internationally banned weapons have hit civilian areas during the past two days.
According to the Victims Documentation Office in Dara’a, at least 34 civilians have been killed since the beginning of the military assault in Dara’a on June 19.
The Assad regime forces and Iranian terrorist militias have pounded the neighborhoods of Dara’a al-Balad with over 80 lob bombs, also known as the Elephant Rockets, highly destructive rocket-fired improvised explosive devices. The shelling caused widespread destruction to civilian homes and shops.
Local news networks said that the Assad regime continues to close crossings leading to Dara’a province, restricting movement of civilians and preventing the entry of goods and necessary supplies to the province. The move is aimed at putting pressure on the local population to surrender and agree to be forcibly displaced from their homes.
Local councils in the towns of al-Lajat, al-Harak, and al-Mileiha al-Sharqiya earlier declared these towns ‘disaster areas’ following the devastation caused by the barbaric bombing campaign mainly targeting residential areas and infrastructure.
