The Emergency Response Coordinators in northern Syria issued an appeal to humanitarian organizations to relieve residents of the IDPs camps in the region, warning of unprecedentedly harsh weather conditions affecting the displaced people.
In a statement issued on Monday, the relief group called for an urgent action to provide the IDPs with heating equipment and waterproof materials as well as repair the sewerage systems for more than 700,000 displaced Syrians living in around 1,036 IDPs camps in northwestern Syria.
The statement called on the relevant parties to meet the needs of the most affected and vulnerable people, including most importantly those who are living in uninhabitable shelters. It noted that the humanitarian response to the needs of more than 4.7 million people living in the region has so far fallen short of meeting the needs of the displaced people.
Hundreds of thousands of Syrians live in IDPs camps in the north of the country and suffer dire humanitarian conditions, especially lack of humanitarian assistance, most notably medical services, sanitation, and harsh weather conditions.
The humanitarian group concluded its statement by calling on donor states to intervene immediately to meet the needs of the displaced people.
Hundreds of official and unofficial camps are scattered across northern Syria. Run by local councils, the camps are supported by humanitarian and relief organizations. Many children have already died in these camps due to severe cold and in fires.
The Syrian Coalition called on the international community and international relief organizations to step up relief aid for civilians who were forcibly displaced by the Assad regime.
