On Friday, demonstrators from various parts of Suwayda province assembled at Karama Square in the city center to emphasize their popular demands for political change and the removal of the Assad regime. Local activists noted that these demonstrations marked the largest gathering since the inception of the popular anti-regime movement in Suwayda approximately a month ago.
The demonstrators underscored that their primary demands were political in nature and extended beyond economic and service-related issues. In a show of support, some local families organized a public feast for the demonstrators in Karama Square.
On Thursday, protestors issued a statement outlining the key demands of the protest movement. The statement emphasized the intent to sustain the demonstrations until the regime’s departure, the necessity of a political transition in accordance with UN Resolution 2254, the activation of Resolution 2118, the referral of individuals responsible for war crimes against the Syrian people to the International Criminal Court, and the release of detainees.
