Civil Defense Documents 149 Attacks on Liberated Areas by Assad Regime and Russia Since September 1st

The Syrian Civil Defense has documented a distressing tally of at least 149 attacks launched by Assad regime and Russian forces since September 1. These attacks targeted 49 separate locations in northwestern Syria, resulting in the loss of 9 civilians, including six children, and inflicting injuries upon 27 individuals, with 15 of them being children.

The relentless, violent bombardment by regime forces, Russia, and their loyal militias has also prompted the displacement of numerous civilians in recent days. Communities affected by this forced displacement include Al-Halwanji, Hama, Al-Sabuniyah, Suwayda, Al-Baldaq, Al-Mahsenli, Ghanma, and Al-Ghandoura in the Jarabulus region, as well as Al-Kreidiyeh and Al-Ajami in the Bzaa region, and Al-Olashli in the Al-Bab region of eastern rural Aleppo.

The attacks encompassed 41 Russian airstrikes, approximately 1,000 artillery shells and rockets, and two strikes involving highly precise and destructive laser-guided Krasnopol missiles. The targets included two internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in eastern rural Aleppo, a school, a mosque, and residential homes.

The Civil Defense has emphasized that the ongoing escalation and acts of terrorism in northwestern Syria pose a severe threat to the stability and well-being of civilians. For many, these areas represent the last refuge after being displaced by regime forces and Russia. The intensification of these attacks forewarns of an impending humanitarian catastrophe.

Since the outset of the current year, 2023, up to Sunday, August 27, civil defense teams have responded to a staggering 491 attacks initiated by regime forces, Russia, and their affiliated militias. These attacks have claimed the lives of 55 individuals, including nine children and five women, while leaving 225 people injured, comprising 78 children and 32 women.

Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
